This week’s Shortcut to Jannah is a slightly long shortcut, so please forgive me for this. But we would not like you to miss on any of the beneficial actions that’s why I thought that you should know about this particular hadith, and know about this amazing ticket to Jannah.
Shortcut # 11 – 99 names of Allah
Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
“There are ninety-nine names of Allah; he who commits them to memory would get into Paradise. Verily, Allah is Odd (He is one, and it is an odd number) and He loves odd number. And in the narration of Ibn ‘Umar (the words are):” He who enumerated them.”
– {Muslim, The Book of Remembrances, Supplications, Repentance and Seeking Forgiveness, Hadith No. 6475 and also Bukhari}
How wonderful a ticket to Jannah this can be if you can memorize the names of Allah! I would also recommend pondering over and contemplating the meanings of the names of Allah in addition to memorizing them.
Also, when you make dua and supplicate to Allah, implore Him using his attributes- 99 names. For example, if you’re seeking an increase in your provision, call on Him using his name Ar-Razzaaq (The Provider). Similarly, if you would like to ask Allah to make you kinder and gentler in your actions, you may call on Him using His name Al-Lateef (The Most Subtle, Kind, Courteous).
There are a few ways you can try and commit the beautiful names of Allah to memory. You can download the names of Allah in an audio format and either listen to them while driving or on your phone during your commute. Children love to listen to the names of Allah being recited, and with some exercises can quickly memorize them inshaaAllah. You can even download an application for your phone (there are many available!) for the 99 names of Allah and also download an image or a poster carrying the names of Allah.
May Allah give us all the ability to incorporate all these actions into our daily life and make easy our path to Paradise inshaAllah.
