I recommend strongly that you make a habit of waking up in the middle of the night to recite this short Dua so that all your prayers may be accepted. If Allah gives you more strength and willpower, then you can pray two rakahs inshaAllah with full concentration so that you gain entry to Paradise inshaAllah.
The benefit of this week’s shortcut is twofold: when you recite this Du’a, you can ask for the best of all rewards, let that be the highest points of all in Paradise, or any request that you wish for and it will be granted to you inshaaAllah.
Shortcut # 14 – Dua in the Middle of the Night
`Ubâdah bin As-Sâmit, may Allâh be pleased with him, narrated that the Messenger of Allâh صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
“Whoever wakes up in the night and says, `None has the right to be worshiped but Allâh, alone, without partner, to Him belongs the Dominion, and to Him is the Praise, and He has Power over all things. And Glory is to Allâh, and all the Praise is to Allâh, and `None has the right to be worshiped but Allâh, and Allâh is the Greatest, and there is no Might nor Power except by Allâh — then he said: ‘O my Lord, forgive me ( Rabbighfirli )’ — or he said — `then he supplicates, he shall be responded to. So if he makes a firm determination, then performs Wudu’ , then he performs Salât , his Salât shall be accepted.” ( Sahih ) (Tirmidhi, The Book Supplications, Hadeeth 3414)
Here’s the English transliteration of the Hadith:
( Lâ Ilâha Illallâh, Wahdahu Lâ Sharika Lahu, Lahul-Mulku Wa Lahul-Hamdu, Wa Huwa `Alâ Kulli Shai’in Qadir. Wa Subhân Allâh, Wal-Hamdulillâh, Wa Lâ Ilâha Illallâh, Wa Allâhu Akbar, Wa Lâ Hawla Wa Lâ Quwwata Illâ Billâh. )’
I believe there are two main reasons for such a great reward when you recite this supplication upon waking up in the middle of the night:
First, is due to the fact that the first thing that we do when we wake up is remembering Allah, thereby giving Him the highest honour above everything else.
Second is related to the fact that we leave our sleep to pray to Allah and ask Him for assistance when most of the people are asleep.
The quietness of the night and the solitude that this time of the night provides us with increases our khushoo’ (sincerity) in our worship to Allah. We only supplicate and pray to Hm in the middle of the night not so that someone can see us praying, but out of love for Allah, and out of hope for His Paradise.
I recommend strongly that you make a habit of waking up in the middle of the night to recite this short Dua (supplication) so that all your prayers may be accepted. If Allah gives you more strength and willpower, then you can pray two rakahs (unites) inshaAllah with full concentration so that you may please Allah and gain entry to Paradise inshaAllah.
